 This weekend ushers in the "official" holiday shopping season. Saturday has become known as "Small Business Saturday," and the movement has really taken off. So, if you'd rather not get "malled," then Hudson Valley Etsy has many alternatives to that "black" experience. We are all over this weekend and these events are just the thing to lift your spirits with an amazing array of handmade, locally sourced holiday gifts.

Sue, of  Digiliodesigns  will be at the 44 Annual Dutchess Community College Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday and Sunday. Sue is inspired by the beauty of the natural world when creating her prints, paper goods and original art. While you're there stop by to meet Kathryn, from HuzzahHandmade to discover some of her luxury hand knits and Nuno felted accessories for special people on your holiday list.

Sue, Kathryn and Hester, from Hesters Studio  are also participating in Gifted, Hudson Valley, a sweet, little Pop-Up Shop right on the main street in Red Hook, N.Y., that opens this weekend and continues through Christmas.

"Gunkholing," is a quirky nautical term for meandering down a waterway, stopping here and there to explore or stock up on provisions. So, get into the adventurous spirit of gunkholing and pay a visit to two of our members this weekend. Christina, from Hudson Naturals will be in Albany at the Half Moon Market with her handmade bath and body products for women and men. Her logo features an image of the Half Moon, Henry Hudson's ship. Hudson cruised the river extensively, gunkholing all the way.

The Ides of August bring good fortune for adventuresome souls who love exploring the Hudson Valley. This weekend Hudson Valley Etsy will be out in force, so you'll need to plan your itinerary very carefully.

Starting in the Mid-Hudson Valley and working your way up, you can meet Sue, from digiliodesigns down by the river at the Garrison Riverside Arts Fair, both Saturday and Sunday. 

Next, you can party (and shop) with seven of our members on Saturday in Kingston at the Chronogram Block Party.  Meet Hester from Hester's Studio, Gwen from Beyond The Picket Fence, Marilyn from Pulp Sushi, Karen from Karmabee, Sara from So Handmade, Jackie from NixeJewels, and Erica, from Incarnate Anew. The Weekend starts early this week for Hudson Valley Etsy with two very diverse events. The venerable river towns of Kingston and Newburgh, perched proudly on above the Hudson provide the settings for our members starting Friday night.

Hester, of Hester's Studio will bring her hand-built ceramics to the Kingston Night Market, a pop-up street festival that takes place every third Friday of the month from May to October. Friday June 19, from 5 - 9 PM. 


On Saturday, June 20 from 11 AM - 12 AM, Newburgh Illuminated will debut with great panache. This day long event celebrates the 150th anniversary of the city and will feature art, music, vendors, trolley tours, and much more. Two of our purveyors of all things bath and body will be there as well.

Christina, of Hudson Naturals will be there so take a stroll, check out her products and perhaps pick up some all natural, avocado oil based soap for you favorite Lumberjack.

Not fond of crowds? According to census reports, Phoenicia, N.Y., a quaint village in the beautiful Catskills, has a population of 309, but there's lots to explore. If bucolic country living is your fancy, take a leisurely drive to the Phoenicia Flea on May 23 /24, from 11 - 7, and introduce yourself to Christina, from Hudson Naturals, All Natural Skin Care . Your skin will love you for it.

Out of My Studio: A Walk in Woodstock

'A Walk in Woodstock' baby fabric book by SO Handmade

I have been busy in my studio developing, printing and making my new fabric baby book  'A Walk in Woodstock'. To mark its launch I thought an actual walk in Woodstock would be in order on this beautiful spring day.

Woodstock has many facets to which I pay homage in my book including its musical heritage, the famous Sunday drum circles, the Woodstock Windchimes and the peace movement. But in recent times many wonderful new stores and cafes have opened to appeal to visitors and locals alike.

New eatery Shindig is situated right in the heart of the village and offers 'an open door, a warm seat, and a much needed sip and nibble'. Organic, local and seasonal ingredients are lovingly prepared by Chef Page Moll into heartwarming comfort food just like your Mom used to make.

Amongst the exciting new stores is a little gem called 'Shop little House'. Owner JoJo Ans has a wonderful eye for combining fine vintage with modern Americana with artisan made gifts and homewares including those of our own HVEtsy team member Hudson Naturals.

Now at ArtsWestchester

We are excited to announce the opening of the new SHOP at ArtsWestchester in White Plains!  Curated by Elena Rosenberg of Elena Rosenberg Wearable Fiber Art, the SHOP at ArtsWestchester carries handmade art and crafts by New York area artists and makers, including many from the Hudson Valley Etsy Team. 

An extension of the beautiful gallery space at 31 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, the shop and gallery are open Tuesday - Saturday, 12-5pm.

There will be trunk shows/demos in connection with the SHOP at ArtsWestchester on the following dates:

Where To Find The Hudson Valley Etsy Team This Weekend

...And so the Holiday season begins! And how about starting it with a bang?!

For one we have the Holiday Bazaar at the VFW Washingtonville Post 8691 in Washingtonville, NY, this Saturday, November 22, from 10-4. Hudson Valley Etsy Team member The Potpourri Room will be there.

This weekend, Saturday November 22 and Sunday November 23, will be the 2nd annual Hudson Valley Hullabaloo. After an exciting start last year the Hullabaloo is expanded to the whole weekend and new location, the Andy Murphy Midtown Neighborhood Center right on Broadway in the middle of Kingston, NY. There are many super-talented crafters and makers in the lineup, plus there will be no shortage of fun with photo booths, a DIY table, food trucks and all kinds of other fun. Hours are Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 11-5.
