Signposts and Guides for the Creative Life

I have a friend who gave me a cute  "origami" peace crane made of polymer clay.  She'd bought it at  a craft fair and it was beautifully packaged in a clear plastic box, nestled in a mound of shredded paper.  I could see the appeal this item would have, all these cute little birds in an array of bright colors, waiting to be purchased as small gifts of friendship.

Lori knows the woman who makes these; she's a fellow polymer clay artist.  And the story goes that this woman finds the birds to be such high sellers that she doesn't have enough time to work on the more interesting projects.   It seems like she's turning herself into a one woman sweat shop, cranking out the cranes, because she knows that her booth fees will get paid.  And perhaps her soul is going unsatisfied because what she'd really like to be working on would mean taking  a greater risk.

Where To Find The Hudson Valley Etsy Team This Weekend

It's a weekend of crafty farmer's markets and don't forget about the Rosendale Street Festival!

Look out for 1846 House Soaps at the Goshen Farmer's Market on Friday, July 20 from 10AM-5PM.

New Prospect Pottery and Sunrise Lodge Fiber Studio will be representing and selling their wares at the Pine Bush Farmer's Market on Saturday, July 21 from 9AM-1:30PM.

And Rosendale will be having a fabulous time at Wishbone Letterpress' booth at the Rosendale Street Festival on Saturday until 9PM and on Sunday until 7PM.

I know, I know.  In this heat wave who wants to even think about a jacket.  Right now we're interested in putting as little clothing on as we can get away with in public.  But I'm telling you, that snap of chill in the air is just around the corner and when it comes, you are going to want something, light, cute that still reminds you of summer and colorful fun.  This stylin' little item is a red and white, (some of my favorite colors) mixed pattern/mixed fabric short jacket with a peplum and Elizabethan sleeves that button up with red snaps.  It's perfect for jeans and would dress up any old shift dress for work or dinner.  Made by Sarah-Maria Vischer of Merrwiibili in Phoencia, New York, her Etsy shop is stocked with many, stylish, hip items to bump up any wardrobe.  Check her out!
