In My Studio: Pantone Color of the Year 2016

Every year Pantone launches a color of the year which is set to inspire and influence everything from fashion to home wares for that coming year. In a change from tradition this year Pantone has named a blend of two colors Rose Quartz and Serenity as their colors of the year. Pantone says that their selection is

A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.

By using Pantones suggested colors of the year designers and makers can tap into new trends in the marketplace. Etsy itself is likely to pick up on these trends and could potentially use these products in features and Etsy Finds.

Out of My Studio: Gifted Hudson Valley

Beautiful Pottery by Hesters Studio

In the small town of Red Hook, just a few miles from Rhinebeck a holiday pop up shop has opened its doors to customers. Featuring wonderful handmade items from 7 of the Makers on Hudson team this is a one stop shop for any discerning customer.

Situated in the Red Hook Community Arts Network or RHCAN gallery space in the heart of Red Hook artists and designers have collaborated to  bring you a wonderful diverse selection of pottery, jewelry, apparel, holiday decorations and more.



Gifted HV is located at the RHCAN Gallery Space located at 7516 N Broadway, Red Hook

Gifted Hudson Valley is the brain child or Amber Haqu of Amberhlynn. She wanted to create a space for local artisans to share their incredible creations. She is manning the space and is looking forward to welcoming you, as she says:

 This weekend ushers in the "official" holiday shopping season. Saturday has become known as "Small Business Saturday," and the movement has really taken off. So, if you'd rather not get "malled," then Hudson Valley Etsy has many alternatives to that "black" experience. Spring Cleaning: Feng Shui that Stuff!!!!

During the winter months, my goals each and every year are the same.

Clean up after the mess that gets created, especially in my studio, during the last quarter of the year.

I also like to use this time for creating new art and planning the coming year schedule, just like the rest of you are probably doing.

This year I am going deep...this is a picture of my fabric stash area in the midst of a clean-up. There is progress if you take a look at the shelves in the cabinet. Lots of fabric got donated or listed on EBAY.

my next step is to go back again and really re-evaluate items.

I am a collector of junk: papers, fabrics, buttons, nature bits and shiny things.....beads, wood, wire.

Always with a idea simmering on the back burner of my mind. But some of theses ideas have been simmering

for too long. Time to focus on my strengths and not on "some day".

According to Tamara Star, who wrote the above article and other articles that link from it, by cleaning out the excess we invite in creativity and prosperity. She recommends going through each room in your home and filling a bag to either donate or throw away. 

Ask three questions:

Do I love it?

Do I use it?

Does it work?

Gearing these three questions to my art and craft will be a challenge. However I hope that by doing so I will open up room for new ideas and creative adventures.
