Welcome Autumn!

Another beautiful weekend approaches for the Hudson Valley. The first days of Fall have been delightful, and perfect for some exploration. Get started on Saturday and visit Erica, from Incarnate Anew, at Green Chimney's Fall Harvest Festival. Green Chimneys is a school for special needs students, and it is also renowned for its Wildlife Center, so the festival is a truly unique and worthwhile day trip for the whole family.

Then, on Sunday, head on down to Hounds on the Sound in the lower valley and pick up some new, handmade duds for your pup from JoAnn, of lollypups. This event is sponsored by Pet Rescue and the New Rochelle Humane Society. You can register for the Dog Walk-a-thon, get some exercise and then do some shopping for all things pet-centric. A fun day for a great cause.

On Sunday, a trip to the Village of Warwick would make for a great day. At  The Makers' Market you can say hello to Cindy, from Cynla designs as you stroll the village green. Cindy's notecards and paper goods are all based on her lovely original artwork. You will find beautiful cards and invitations for every occasion in her collection.

In My Studio: Using Etsy Local

I have recently discovered the new Etsy Local feature on the website and Etsy App.
Its a great way for both sellers and buyers to connect at events and stores in and around your local area. Or to discover great events happening when you are travelling to new places.

For Buyers

Go to www.etsy.com/local or on the Etsy App click the local option at the top of the page.
Look at the map for the locations that your local Etsy sellers will be exhibiting at including events, pop up shops, markets, fairs and bricks and mortar stores.
You can easily scroll through the events and when you click on one it will give you all sorts of information about the event including which Etsy sellers will be there, hours and location and related websites.

When  using the app on an iphone or ipad the Etsy App will use your location as a basis for which to compile a list of events. If you want to look for events further afield you can type in your location at the top of the page at www.etsy.com/local.

For Sellers

This is a great way to get exposure for any events your are participating in.
When you have been accepted at an event you can add your Etsy shop to any of the events listed.

Click on the event and then click the blue 'I'm Participating' button. It will give you the option of writing a sentence on what visitors can expect to see at your booth.  It is also possible to add your own event if you are organizing a trunk show, pop up market or to advertise your brick and mortar store.

Once you have added your shop to an event it will say Upcoming Markets on the side bar of your Etsy shop page (right under your review stars and sales number). When visitors click on this it will give them the events you are doing like this:
See you out and about soon!
Good Luck and Good Making

There is a harmony in autumn, and a luster in its sky, which through the summer is not heard or seen, as if it could not be, as if it had not been!

For some, this weekend marks the "unofficial" end to summer, although technically, we are still enjoying summer's slow fade. We begin to anticipate cooler days and brilliant colors. Harvest Festivals begin to abound. On Sunday from 11-4, you'll find Kathryn, of HuzzahHandmade at the Rosehaven Alpaca Festival at Bethel Woods with her hand knits and felted accessories, many of which feature luscious Alpaca Fiber. The Harvest Festival at Bethel Woods features a farmer's market, two handcrafts tents, music and food. One entire tent is devoted to Alpaca products, live animals, and demonstrations, so make it a destination and have a great day.

Summers Bounty

I was blessed with a basket of zucchini last week. This is always a wonderful month
for receiving all sorts of produce from my gardening family and friends.
So, if you can stand another recipe or two...

First I grated up a few of the zucchinis, if you have a mandolin for this
it makes life much easier this time of year.

On the web I found a recipe for:

 Mom's Zucchini Bread

www.http://allrecipes.com/recipe/6698/moms-zucchini-bread/
I substituted half a cup of apple sauce for half a cup of oil and
it still came out nice and moist.

It makes two generous loaves one for now and one to freeze.

I also, for the first time, made zucchini fritters and they will be making a repeat showing.
I served them on top of a roasted tomato slice sprinkled more
parmesan cheese and drizzled balsamic syrup over.
This recipe came out of a cookbook named simply:

Vegetarian
edited by Nicola Graimes
Metro Books

3 1/2 cups grated zucchini
2/3 cup parmesan cheese
2 eggs beaten
4 tablespoons unbleached all purpose flour
vegetable oil for frying
salt and pepper

Squeeze the grated zucchini in a towel to get any excess water out, then combine with
the parmesan, flour, salt and pepper and eggs.
Heat enough oil to cover the base of a large frying pan. Add 2 tablespoons of the mixture
for each fritter and cook for two to three minutes each side until golden, drain on paper towels.

Yummy!
